- Prof. Ki Jun Yu received 2018 Distinguished Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence from Yonsei University.
- Based on the evaluations of all the lectures conducted during the year 2018, Professor Ki Jun Yu won “Distingguished Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence” in the college of engineering, selected by Yonsei University's administrative department. The Distinguished Teaching Award is intended to recognize individual faculty for sustained performance of excellence in teaching by every college unit. - Geon Seok Lee in Prof. Yong-June Shin’s Research Group Received IEEE CSC Graduate Study Fellowship
- Geon Seok Lee under Prof. Yong-June Shin’s supervision was awarded as a recipient of IEEE Council on Superconductivity Graduate Study Fellowships. He is the first Korean graduate student to ever win this prestigious fellowship during this program. Fellowship recipients are selected based on the quality of their research, the impact of their current research and the impact of their potential research in future of applied superconductivity. Each IEEE CSC Graduate Study Fellowship consist of a scholarship of US$ 5,000 and a complimentary membership (or renewal) in IEEE.

- On-device Learning Research from Prof. Kim’s Lab was awarded at IEEE Seoul Student Paper Contest and presented at NeurIP
- Prof. Seong-Lyun Kim’s research team developed federated distillation and augmentation algorithms, which improve the communication efficiency of on-device machine learning. The results will be presented in December at the Workshop on Machine Learning on the Phone and other Consumer Devices(MLPCD) of the Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems(NeurIPS). It was also awarded the silver prize at 2018 IEEE Seoul Student Paper Contest. The work was led by prof. Seong-Lyun Kim and his supervising students, Eunjeong Jeong, Seungeun Oh, Hyesung Kim, in collaboration with Prof. M. Bennis and Dr. Jihong Park in University of Oulu, Finland.

- Prof. Sohn’s paper, “Adversarial Confidence Estimation Networks for Robust Stereo Matching”, has been accepted to IEEE Trans. on Image Processing (TIP), one of the most prestigious journal in Image Processing area (Impact Factor 5.07, JCR Electrical & Electronic Engineering Ranking 8%). This work was done by Sunok Kim, Joint Master/Ph.D Student, as a 1st author and Prof. Kwanghoon Sohn as a corresponding author.

- Prof. Dosik Hwang developed A.I. technology for Brain Metastasis Detection MRI
- Professor Dosik Hwang’s team has developed A.I. technique to generate Black-Blood MR imaging for Brain metastasis tumor detection. The proposed A.I. method was designed to consider MR-specific features and outperformed other state-of-the-art techniques. The resulting paper is published in Nature Scientific Reports, an authoritative journal in the field of multidiciplinary sciences. This work was done by Professor Dosik Hwang in collaboration with Dr. Sungsoo Ahn at Severance Hospital (Radiological Science & CCIDS).

- Prof. Hyun Jae Kim is appointed as a deputy editor of ‘ACS Applied Electronic Materials’, a new science journal launched by ACS. ACS Applied Electronics Materials will deal with a wide range of research on electronic materials, including conducting, semiconducting, insulating, dielectric, and magnetic properties, as well as their applications. This journal will provide a new and creative forum for electronic materials research. ACS Applied Electronic Materials will start to receive the manuscripts as of October 10, 2018

- Prof. Hyun Jae Kim's research team won the encouragement award at the 2nd SK Hynix Semiconductor Innovation Idea Contest
- Prof. Hyun Jae Kim's research team won the encouragement award at ‘The 2nd SK Hynix Semiconductor Innovation Idea Contest’ with the topic of oxide composition control technology to improve the performance of 3D NAND cell. They presented ‘a heterogeneous oxide thin film for the channel layer and a staggered oxide thin film for the tunneling layer in 3D NAND cell’. These ideas drastically reduced leakage current and process time & cost of the 3D NAND cell and improved the uniformity of the 3D NAND cells. This idea was guided by Prof. Hyun Jae Kim and graduate students Young Jun Tak , Tae Soo Jung and Won-Gi Kim were awarded.
